After almost four months of patience, variety of hockey fans treated the news regarding the end of NHL lockout with mixed emotions on Sunday. The news of a tentative agreement between the NHL and NHLPA spread sheer excitement and thrill since the game was finally going to commence, whereas at the same time many denounced the news and did not share the same joy.

Such long duration of lockout has generated quite extraordinary grief for the hardcore fans of the game, while also causing noticeable loss of revenue to numerous small businesses depending on the league. When the news of a tentative deal was made public, majority of the fans were unsure whether they were prepared to welcome the NHL season like nothing has happened or not. One of the self-described Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators fan, Kevin Bourn,  stated that he is glad to hear that season is likely saved though he claimed be doubtful of watching the upcoming games with same enthusiasm as he would’ve done before the chaos. He pointed out that  “I don’t think fans were really respected in the whole thing,” said Bourne, 32, at Toronto’s Eaton Centre. “Now that it’s been gone for so long, I started gravitating to other sports.”

The tentative agreement for putting an end to the 113-day-long NHL lockout was reached on early Sunday, after a long Saturday night of negotiations. While there were some who welcomed the news with enthusiasm, there were also some who are not yet ready to forget the lockout.
