Marcel Gionet, 23 guilty of impaired driving causing death, 21 months in jail

On Thursday June 3, 2010, Marcel Gionet, a 23-year-old man from Allainville in New Brunswick, appeared before Judge Eric Friel in Miramichi Provincial Court and was sentenced in relation to a fatal single vehicle collision that occurred in July 2009 in Caisse Road, New Brunswick.

Marcel Gionet was condamned to 21 months in jail for impaired driving causing death, a six-month concurrent sentence for impaired driving causing bodily harm, and three months in jail for failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in bodily harm or death. He is prohibited from driving for a period of five years and he was ordered to provide a DNA sample.

This condemnation stems from an incident that occurred on July 4, 2010, around 2:15 a.m., on Route 455 in Caissie Road, New Brunswick. The driver, Marcel Gionet, lost control of his vehicle, which ended up in the ditch, overturned. A female passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Pont Lafrance in New Brunswick, died as a result of her injuries.
