 he Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident in Calgary.

On June 9 at approximately 1:30 a.m., a Calgary Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle occupied by two individuals. The officer turned on the car’s lights and siren to get the vehicle to pull over. The suspect vehicle began maneuvering in an attempt to flee. The officer deactivated the emergency equipment and lost sight of the suspect vehicle. The officer continued to search the area to try to find the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was found a few minutes later; it had crashed into a residence in the 800 block of 10 Ave in northeast Calgary. The suspect vehicle was on fire and the officer and other responding Calgary Police Service members fought the fire until the arrival of the Calgary Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.

Both the driver and passenger were pulled from the vehicle after the fire was put out. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to hospital but died from injuries.

Identification of both individuals in the vehicle is yet to be confirmed. The occupant of the residence and a Calgary Police Service member were injured; both have been treated and released.
