On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Tilly O’Neill-Gordon, Member of Parliament (Miramichi), today announced funding for the Miramichi Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival.

This funding will permit the Miramichi Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival to entertain residents and visitors alike with a light-hearted celebration of rock and roll music, retro dancing, and classic cars.

"The Miramichi Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival is one of many summer festivals in the area that enhance and celebrate this beautiful region of the province," said Minister Moore. "Community events such as this not only help to build Miramichi’s vibrant character and lively nature, but also contribute to the larger economic picture."

"A summer festival is good for business," said Ms. O’Neill-Gordon. "It’s also good for community spirit. The Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival is like a big block party where everyone is having a good time, enjoying rock and roll music, and supporting the Miramichi area. Everyone wins."

"The funding that we received from the Government of Canada will allow us to assure the continued success of our annual event," said Julie Allison, Chair of the 2010 Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival Committee. "The Festival’s family-oriented activities are an inter-generational celebration of music that has stood the test of time. Rock ‘N’ Roll is at the origin of much of the music heard today. The festival has activities for all ages and thanks to this investment, we are able to continue to provide this entertainment while attracting and showcasing more local artists."

The 18th Annual Miramichi Rock ‘N’ Roll Festival will be held from July 1 to 4. The event will feature a variety of family-oriented activities, including a soap box derby, antique car show, golden oldie car parade, fireworks, and of course, numerous rock and roll dances at various locations across the city.
