District 1 RCMP is investigating a fatal snowmobile crash that occurred on Lake MacDougall in Charlotte County, on March 10, 2013.

At approximately 1 a.m., two men riding on a snowmobile lost control of their machine and crashed on the shore line in MacDougall Lake.  The 23-year-old driver, a St. George man, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The  22-year-old passenger was taken to the Saint John Regional Hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.  He remains in hospital.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the snowmobile possibly struck a large bed of rocks while they were crossing the lake which made the riders loose control of the machine.

District 1 RCMP and the Coroner’s office are continuing the investigation.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification to his family.
