Liberal MP Marc Garneau has made an announcement declaring his decision to give up his candidacy for the Liberal leadership race, asserting that it is becoming very clear that the party is supporting no one else but his frontrunner contender MP Justin Trudeau.

Garneau mentioned during a press conference conducted in the morning, that “last night I talked to Bob Rae and Justin Trudeau and informed [them] of my decision to drop my candicacy for the leadership of the Liberal Party.” He bluntly stated that “I entered this race thinking I had a chance to win . . . but at the end of the day I am second,” and so “It is my opinion now based on internal analysis that the party has chosen [Justin Trudeau.]“ 64-year-old Garneau alleged he intends to keep being a loyal Liberal MP for a “long time.” The next federal election are not expected until 2015. Garneau alleged that “I am a loyal soldier.” Even though Garneau was never seen as a potential winner, he was often considered as one of the biggest challenges to Trudeau’s campaign due to his bulky resume.

Garneau openly and directly criticized Trudeau’s less-than substantial policy plans while competing in the race, however, it seemed like no tactic of Garneau could result in changing the position of frontrunner’s campaign. Trudeau responded with mild replies to Garneau scornful questions, asserting that his colleague is running a “negative campaign.” Several other candidates have also left the race over the past several weeks, leaving seven in contention.
