The crime-scene investigators are attending an extensive three-alarm fire blaze at an 18-dwelling apartment building in Longueuil, that occurred on Friday morning. Constable of Longueuil police, Mark David, mentioned that “traces of accelerants were found in the apartment where the fire seems to have originated,” and “we’re considering it suspect.”

Overall, the incident resulted in general estimate of $1 million of damage and forced at least 40 people from their homes. David further added, at 11:30 a.m., that “twelve of the 18 apartments are total writeoffs.” He explained that “were the accelerants put there intentionally? We don’t know. We’re trying to figure out what happened in that apartment.” As for potential witnesses, “we haven’t met with anybody yet. We have to question some people. Crime-scene technicians are going there, with our experts in arson.”

A Longueuil firefighter was shifted to a nearby hospital, suffering from chest and shoulder injuries. The division fire chief, Michel Hugerot, revealed that “he might have a couple of fractured ribs,” as he was hit by a considerably large piece of untied roofing at almost around 9 a.m. Hugerot elucidated that the firefighter was “hit in a shoulder and the torso area,” and he still remained conscious. Hugerot alleged that “there are always risks” when entering a building that has been heavily damaged by flames. Two others were also injured during the incident, as one firefighter suffered from a cut finger, while the other had to be wheeled out from the scene, on a gurney but without apparent haste by paramedics. Hugerot explained that the second man, who was not a firefighter, had reported being bothered by smoke.
