The closure of Albert Street at 10:00 p.m. on July 1, 2010, will accommodate those who wish to view the Canada Day fireworks, giving pedestrians the opportunity to watch the display from the Albert Street bridge, if they so choose. Traffic control devices and signage will alert motorists as they approach the closed portion of Albert Street and police personnel will be on hand to ensure that traffic is diverted appropriately and safely. Drivers should choose an alternative to the Albert Street bridge from 10:00 p.m. on. Motorists driving to Wascana Park to view the fireworks must park in a manner that is both safe and legal. Police will patrol the park before and during the fireworks and vehicles that are not legally parked may be ticketed and towed.
The Regina Police Service also reminds motorists that they cannot park vehicles on the shoulders, or the medians, of the Number One Bypass (Ring Road) between Wascana Parkway and Assiniboine Avenue. This practice presents a serious hazard to all users of the roadway and police will be patrolling the area to ensure motorists comply. Similarly, police cars will be patrolling Broad Street between College Avenue and Lakeshore Drive to ensure the roadways are clear of illegally parked vehicles.
