B.C. NDP Leader, Adrian Dix, has asserted that he intends to work with Ottawa in order to unravel the economic development sustained in the province, however he will not bear the current situation of speedy approvals for resource projects which lack public’s feedback. Furthermore, Mr. Dix alleged that he plans to make energy companies acquire a “social licence” from communities along with their pipeline routes and spend considerable time on broader consultations, which will eventually aid in evading any clashes.

On the other hand, while speaking to media representative on Sunday, B.C. Liberal Leader Christy Clark assured to stand for what’s in the interest of the province and said that it is just “tough luck” if other premiers don’t like her approach. Now since only a week is left for campaigning before the elections, and while the NDP leads the polls by a narrowing margin, the main turning point will be the approach of both parties towards exploiting the province’s resource-driven economy, including the role of B.C. in moving Alberta’s oil to the West Coast to reach Asian markets.

Both the leaders of NDP and the Liberals have publicly announced their support for the plan of transforming B.C.’s natural-gas resource into liquefied natural gas, although the Liberal Leader claim that the New Democrats will “kill” the opportunity by implementing policies that include imposing a carbon tax on natural-gas emissions. Whereas, responding to that allegation, the NDP Leader alleged that Liberal plan to eliminate the debt on the back of LNG is little more than a fairy-tale promise.
