Winnipeg police has taken an extremely rare and unordinary step of releasing the identity, including a photo and name, of a 17 year old charged with second-degree murder and wanted in a homicidal case. Anthony McClements is facing charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder in the death of 20-year-old Nigel Dixon, along with shooting another woman. Dixon was shot dead in broad daylight on April 2 on Winnipeg’s Langside Street.

Police explained that the incident was an alleged case of mistaken identity, when Dixon and a female companion were walking in the 500 block of Langside at the time they were approached by a group of strangers. They inquired Dixon about his allegiance to any gang and upon Dixon’s refusal to answer and attempt to flee, the gang opened free. Police reports that one member of the group started shooting at the pair, which resulted in immediate death of Dixon, while the female companion was rushed to hospital and managed to survive the attack. Police later investigated that Dixon did not belong to any gang and was not involved in any gang activity.

Routinely, the Youth Criminal Justice Act protects the identity of young suspects or offenders as they cannot be publicly disclosed, however in this case, police appealed to the public with help of media to help in locating the dangerous 17 year old. The police statement depicted that McClements is about five-foot-nine and 150 pounds (68 kilograms), with short shaved blonde hair, acne, blue eyes and tattoos on both his forearms.
