Edmonton… Premier Ed Stelmach issued a statement today mourning the death of entrepreneur and community leader Tom Shields.

“Tom Shields was a treasured friend and a tireless promoter of Alberta’s Peace Country for many years. He was a good friend, a trusted advisor as well as a strong voice for the Grande Prairie region and he will be sadly missed.

“His contribution to his family, his community and our province was outstanding. Tom volunteered for many organizations, charities and, of course, was a lifelong supporter and volunteer for the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party.

Only a few weeks ago, Marie and I had the pleasure of spending some time with Tom at the Legislature and he was looking forward to the days ahead. When we learned of his passing we were shocked and saddened. On behalf of all Albertans, we offer our heart felt condolences to Tom’s wife Jan, his sons Peter, Jason, David and the entire Shields family.”
