In a revised boil-water advisory issued on Wednesday morning at around 10:30 a.m., it was suggested that the areas affected by the cautionary warning shall include the southwest sector of Montreal, along with many other already notified areas both on and off the island. Overall, so far the warning has been issued for residents of Verdun, Point-St-Charles, St-Henri, Côte-St-Paul, Ville-Émard, Westmount, Côte-St-Luc, Hampstead, Town-of-Mount-Royal, Anjou, Montreal East and the off-island town of Charlemagne. Additionally, the city also issued warning for all areas south of the Metropolitan Expressway, from LaSalle in the west to Pointe aux Trembles in the east.

The warning notifies residents to boil the slightly brownish tap water or, to be on the safe side, use bottled water for drinking purposes instead. The residents are advised to boil their drinking water for at least a minute until further notice. The boil-water advisory was issued by the city of Montreal on Wednesday morning due to the ongoing maintenance work under place at the Atwater water facility, which resulted in the unnatural quality of water samples.

The city has recommended residents to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, preparing baby formula, washing fruits and vegetables, brushing teeth and making ice cubes. However, raw water from the faucet is still viable for washing hands and dishes, washing clothes and taking a bath or shower. The safety precautions indicate that in case raw water is being used, residents shall dry their hands as soon as possible. The notification entails that the city will advise as soon as the situation reverts to normal.
