According to the results of a recently conducted forum poll for the National Post, it was found that Canada’s opposition Liberals are at a position of winning a big majority, under the new and sound leadership of Justin Trudeau, in case an election were held now. Even though next election is not due until October 2015, the poll showed that the son of former Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau, has upheld his approval since taking over the Liberal Party last month.

The poll translated into a 44 percent support for the Liberals, which was a one percentage increment in comparison to a poll conducted by the same firm in mid-April. Whereas, the Conservatives, who are now quite noticeably suffering from a damaging Senate expenses scandal, had their support decreased down by three points to 27 percent. The third place was secured by the official opposition party, New Democrats (NDP), who outnumbered the Liberals in the third place for the first time ever in the May 2011 election, having increased their support by one percentage up to 20 percent.

Addressing the recently arisen and a very serious scandal at hands of the Conservatives, Harper informed the press on Wednesday that he was “very sorry” about the scandal, while swearing that he was not aware of the actions of his chief of staff, who has since resigned. The President of Forum Research, Lorne Bozinoff, stated that “Mr. Harper’s very bad week has had a drastic effect on his approval and his party’s. It doesn’t help, when the Liberals are surging as they have been, to be stonewalling a controversy.”
