Four men rob and stab a taxi driver in Winnipeg

On July 10, 2010 at approximately 5:20 a.m., Uniform members were dispatched to the 3000 block of Pembina Highway regarding a stabbing incident involving a cab driver.

Attending members discovered that the suspects had since fled the area including the victim who was later located at a nearby hospital.

The investigation has revealed that 4 suspects allegedly conspired to commit a robbery against a cab driver. One of the suspects contacted a local cab company requesting that a cab attend their location. Once the driver arrived, he was confronted and subsequently stabbed to the upper body. The driver and suspects fled the area.

The victim was located in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Due to the efforts of Uniform members including the Canine Unit, 5 suspects were located and arrested in the area of Pembina Highway and Newdale Avenue.

The suspects were conveyed to the District 6 police station for further processing.

The investigation continued at which time it was learned that the suspects were also involved in a break and enter incident in the area of the 2900 block of Pembina Highway prior to the stabbing taking place.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., one of the suspects identified as Shawn BRUYERE, 21 years escaped police custody. He was later located in the Fort Richmond area of the city and re-arrested without incident.

Charges are as follows:

· Shawn BRUYERE – Robbery with a Weapon, Conspiracy to commit an Indictable Offence (Robbery), Break enter and theft, Possess weapon for dangerous purpose, Escape lawful custody and Breach Probation. Detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.

· 16 year old female – Robbery with a Weapon, Conspiracy to commit an Indictable Offence (Robbery), Break enter and theft, Breach Probation and Fail to comply with conditions of a recognizance. Detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre.

· 23 year old male – Robbery with a Weapon, Conspiracy to commit an Indictable Offence (Robbery), Break enter and theft. Released on a Promise to Appear.

· 20 year old female – Robbery with a Weapon, Conspiracy to commit an Indictable Offence (Robbery), Break enter and theft. Released on a Promise to Appear.

· 19 year old male – Break and enter. Released on a Promise to Appear.
