Police taser an Oshawa woman during a domestic dispute

A 34-year-old female from Oshawa who allegedly assaulted her common-law spouse and then barricaded herself was tasered by police after a lengthy stand-off and later arrested for numerous offences.

On Thursday July 8, at approximately 7:15 p.m. officers from Central East Division attended a residence in the Oxford Street and Malaga Road neighborhood of Oshawa concerning a dispute between common-law spouses. The 52-year-old common-law husband alleged he had been physically assaulted and verbally threatened and had contacted police. When officers arrived, the female suspect would not co-operate with police and barricaded herself in her residence. Police secured a search warrant to enter the residence to affect her arrest, after failed attempts to negotiate her surrender were unsuccessful.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. police entered the residence and deployed the use of the taser to facilitate her arrest as the suspect remained physically confrontational and potentially armed. The female suspect was not injured and did not require medical attention.

The 34-year-old female from Oshawa is charged with: Assault with a Weapon, Assault and Threatening Death. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
