After months of investigative work, Robbery Section detectives together with other EPS members have made an arrest in connection with a takeover style robbery at a Southside Sawmill restaurant location.

22-year-old Christopher John Saunders has been charged with robbery, disguised with intent and possession of a weapon. Saunders was arrested without incident Wednesday morning.

The suspects in the robbery were armed with machetes. Detective Rob Paton of the EPS Robbery Section says, “What was a concern about this particular case was the level of violence. There were a number of customers and staff in the business at the time of the incident.”

Detectives believe the accused didn’t act alone and are continuing to investigate two persons of interest.

Background:

On Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 8:45 p.m. two male suspects dressed in dark clothing entered the Sawmill restaurant and Lounge located on Calgary Trail. They demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. They were seen leaving in a green coloured Honda or Acura with partial plate ‘ZAS.’
