Tamrat Gebere charged with murder of Aster Kassa in Ottawa

The Ottawa Police Major Crime Section investigators have completed notification of next of kin and subsequently released the name of the victim as Aster Kassa, 32 years-old of Ottawa.

Post-mortem reports concluded that Ms. Kassa died as a result of injuries caused by multiple stab wounds.

Ms. Kassa had been previously been involved in a relationship with the accused Tamrat GEBERE, but was separated from him at the time of the offence.

The Major Crime Section continues to investigate.

Background:

The Ottawa Police Service Major Crime Section has charged Tamrat GEBERE, a 35-year-old male from Ottawa, with Second Degree Murder following a fatal stabbing that occurred in the 1500 block of Riverside Drive on July 17, 2010.

Mr GEBERE will appear in court on Monday morning, July 19, 2010.

The cause of death of the victim has yet to be determined. A post mortem will be conducted at a later date.

The name of the victim will not be released pending notification of next of kin.
