A TTC bus crash in Scarborough this morning resulted in one woman’s death and at least 13 others injured. According to police officials the crash involved three vehicles and took place a little after 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Middlefield Road and Steeles Avenue. Witnesses report that a cube van could be seen jumbled in the bus wreckage. Police sources also confirmed that the deceased woman was a passenger waiting to exit the bus, while explaining that the bus was stationary at the time of collision. EMS reported that 13 victims were shifted to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

In a tweet posed by TTC spokesman, Brad Ross, he explained that the bus operator has been removed from the crash using the jaws of life but is OK. Whereas, TTC Chair Karen Stintz also mentioned on twitter that the crash “very sad news.” On the other hand, the TTC’s chief executive officer, Andy Byford, was present at the site of incident and told reporters that the crash was “a very serious and shocking incident.” Byford reported that, according to his knowledge, there are a number of witnesses to the crash who can help police determine the sequence of events. He stated that “I think we’ll get to the bottom of what happened very quickly.”

Byford revealed that the bus driver has been put into a neck brace and assured that his wife is also notified. He stated that “my understanding is that he’s been with us for six years,” while declining to identify the driver.
