York Regional Police have arrested a 41-year-old Keswick man following a five-hour stand off with York Regional Police in the Town of Georgina.

On Saturday, July 24, 2010, at approximately 3 a.m., York Regional Police received a 9-1-1 call advising a male was armed in a residence, located on Bayview Avenue.

York Regional Police uniform officers arrived on scene within minutes of the call and heard the sound of gunshots coming from inside the home and immediately contained the area. Officers from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) secured the area to protect local residents and the general public.

Trained hostage negotiators were also called in to aid in the safe surrender of the armed suspect.
 
At approximately 8:30 a.m., contact was made with the suspect and he peacefully surrendered himself to members of the ERU outside the home and was arrested without incident.

Officers located a .12 gauge shotgun and ammunition following the stand off. The residence is still being held as the investigation continues.

There were no injuries in this incident.

• Leslie Ralph SNOOK, 41, of Keswick

CHARGES:
• Weapons Dangerous
• Careless Use of a Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

Mr. SNOOK has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket sometime today for a show cause hearing.
