Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement Unit members have charged a 32-year-old man after seizing drugs during an investigation into a hit and run incident last night.

Shortly after 9:00 p.m. Monday, July 26, officers responded to a report of a hit and run in the area of 88 Street and 102 Avenue. A van collided with a car and left the area. No one was injured.

A short time later, police investigated a report that a possible suspect was observed walking in an alley a few blocks away. Further follow-up investigation resulted in police locating the suspect in a taxi at Bellamy Hill. The taxi was stopped by police and the 32-year-old was arrested.

Police also seized a backpack and discovered a kilogram of cocaine worth an estimated $60,000 – $80,000 (if sold on the street), two cell phones and two ounces of meth.

Charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breach of recognizance is Jason Croft, 32, of Edmonton.

The hit and run incident remains under investigation.
