Police in eastern New Brunswick have arrested five people in connection with an 18-month long police operation aimed at disrupting the illegal drug trade in New Brunswick.

On September 5, 2013, police officers with the New Brunswick RCMP’s Federal Operations East Bathurst detachment, the Northeast and Southeast District RCMP, the Northeast Integrated Intelligence Unit, the Bathurst Police Force, and the BNPP Regional Police Force executed six search warrants in Tracadie-Sheila, Val-Comeau, and Shediac, N.B. Assistance was also provided by the Miramichi Police Force and the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) during the investigation.

Four men and one woman, ranging in age from 30 to 50, were arrested and more than two kilograms of cocaine, two vehicles and cash were seized during the course of the investigation.

“Thanks to our close partnerships and integrated work with other police forces in the province, we’ve been able to dismantle a group of individuals who we believe were supplying a substantial quantity of illegal drugs to street-level drug traffickers in eastern New Brunswick,” says S/Sgt. André Potvin, the Operations NCO for Federal Operations East. “Because of these arrests, more than 6,000 doses of cocaine will not make it to the streets in our communities.”

Three of those arrested appeared in Tracadie-Sheila Provincial Court on September 6, to face a number of drug-related charges.

50-year-old Denis Robichaud of Val-Comeau is charged with two counts of trafficking cocaine and two counts of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

39-year-old Timmy Joseph Cormier of Shediac is charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

37-year-old Roland Gallant of Shediac is charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking.

Another man, 49-year-old Ronald Joseph (Roney) Robichaud of Tracadie-Sheila has also been charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He will appear in court at a later date.

All four men are also charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine.

The other man and the woman who were arrested were later released.

The RCMP continues to work with its policing partners to dismantle and disrupt the trade of illegal drugs in New Brunswick and to make our communities some of the safest in Canada. The investigation is ongoing.
