A total of 30 people were arrested, including 13 “johns” (males) and 17 females. Eleven of the arrested males qualified for the Pre-Charge Diversion Program. This program includes a requirement to attend “john school”, a restorative justice program which focuses on education about the effects of prostitution within our communities.

The remaining 19 people were charged with a variety of offences, including Communicating for the Purpose of Prostitution, Mischief, Breach of Conditions, as well as offences under the provincial Liquor Licence Act. A total of 26 criminal charges were laid.

The Ottawa Police Service conducts prostitution sweeps regularly throughout the year and will continue to make this a priority when developing enforcement strategies.
