Richard Martin and Shane Gill charged with hate crime in Hamilton

 The Hamilton Police Service Hate Crime Unit has concluded an investigation of a hate/bias crime and has arrested and charged two men with Criminal Harassment.

On Friday July 16th, 2010, Hamilton Police were called to a home in Hamilton’s west end to investigate a report of harassment. The victim indicated that over the course of a couple of weeks she had been taunted by two males unknown to her. The victim alleged that the males yelled racial slurs at her several times over the course of a couple weeks and on July 16th the two males followed her to her home, banged on her door prompting her to call police for assistance.

The Hamilton Police Service Hate Crime Unit continued to investigate and through investigation determined the identity of the suspect males. Both males were arrested and will be appearing for a bail hearing today.

Charged: Richard MARTIN, 23 yrs. of No Fixed Address
Shane GILL, 38 yrs. of No Fixed Address

Charge: Criminal Harassment (with hate/bias overtones)
