The RCMP has filed an official request in court, as a development in their ongoing investigation into Senator Mike Duffy, in which seeks permission to explore the possibility of Mr. Duffy having had defrauded the Senate of almost $64,000, by issuing contracts to a consultant who allegedly produced “little or no apparent work.” Court documents narrated that a consultant, and also Mr. Duffy’s friend, named Gerald Donohue has alleged that he did not receive the money personally, while the RCMP is interested to know where it ended up. Mr. Donohue allegedly told investigators he “never funnelled any of the money back to Duffy.”

RCMP has found that contracts of four years summed up to a total of $64,916.50, the amount which was paid by the Senate either directly to Mr. Donohue or companies associated with him. The court filings are authored by RCMP Corporal, Greg Horton, who is the same officer also investigating allegations against fellow Senator Patrick Brazeau and former senator Mac Harb. The RCMP is now seeking banking information to trace where the money went.

In his court filings, Cpl. Horton states that “a public official is expected to spend taxpayer’s [sic] money in a transparent and responsible manner. Based on the facts set out above, I believe that Senator Duffy, in his role as a Candian Senator, breached the standard of responsibility and conduct demanded and expected of him as a person in a position of public trust. He used his office for a dishonest purpose, other than for the public good. In doing so he committed Breach of Trust and Fraud.”
