Two more men arrested for human trafficking in Markham

Members working out of the York Regional Police Drugs and Vice Unit have charged two additional people and are seeking one more man in connection with a Town of Markham Human Trafficking incident.

On Wednesday, August 11, 2010, Trevor Samuel EDWARDS, 40, of Markham, turned himself in to the York Regional Police #5 District Headquarters after a lengthy investigation into a violent assault relating to an incident of human trafficking. Trevor EDWARDS was previously wanted on a Canada Wide Criminal Code Arrest Warrant. He now faces charges of Trafficking in Persons, Receive Material Benefit, Obstruct Justice, Assault x 6, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Robbery, Criminal Harassment, Utter Threats Cause Death x 2, Kidnapping, Forcible Confinement, Hostage Taking, Choking, Extortion, Possession of Heroin for the Purposes of Trafficking x 2 and Possession of Ketamine for the Purpose of Trafficking. Trevor EDWARDS has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket sometime today.

Previously, on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, a second suspect, Tyrone EDWARDS, 30, of Markham, turned himself into York Regional Police and is facing various charges including Utter Threats, Party to the Offence of Forcible Confinement and Possession of Heroin and Crystal Methamphetamine for the Purposes of Trafficking. Tyrone EDWARDS has been held
in custody and will appear next before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Monday, August 23, 2010.
 
On Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at approximately 4 p.m., police were called to a parking lot on Lockridge Avenue in the Town of Markham. Responding officers began an investigation into the suspicious injuries sustained by a 24-year-old female victim found to be the result of a violent assault. On Tuesday, July 6, 2010, the same female victim was kidnapped, forcibly confined and assaulted by a man believed connected to the first assault. A second suspect was identified in relation to the forcible confinement.

On Sunday, July 11, 2010, Drugs and Vice Unit officers executed a search warrant at a Town of Markham residence, which resulted in the seizure of a quantity of ammunition and drugs.
Subsequent to this investigation, police were able to determine that two more people were involved in the incident. On Saturday, July 31, 2010, Kimberly WAKE, 28, of Pickering was arrested and charged with Accessory After the Fact, Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence, Party to the Offence of Failure to Comply with Recognizance and Party to
the Offence of Forcible Confinement. Ms. WAKE has been held in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket sometime today.

A fourth suspect is currently being sought in connection with the case. He is described as; 

• Male, black, 5’10’’, dark complexion, medium build, goes by the street name “Lucky”
• Investigators believe he may be in the London area
