The Honourable Madam Justice Anne-Marie Hourigan of the Provincial Court sentenced both men on Thursday, August 12, 2010, after accepting their guilty plea. Adrian, FLORES, 20, was sentenced to two years in custody and must provide a mandatory DNA sample and is prohibited from possessing firearms for life. Joshua MILLER, 20, will serve 22 months in custody and must also provide a DNA sample and is also prohibited from possessing firearms for life.
Miguel ARIAS, 19, and Angela FLORES, 32, both of Toronto, have also pleaded guilty to Manslaughter. Mr. ARIAS will appear again on October 7, 2010 and Ms. FLORES will appear on November 10, 2010, for sentencing.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at approximately 3 a.m., uniform officers and Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire after a report of an explosion at 250 Rayette Road. Upon
arrival they discovered two commercial units fully engulfed in flames. In total, six commercial units which housed three separate businesses suffered extensive fire and structural damage.
The damage value is estimated at more than $1 million.
While investigating the incident, officers received information that a man was at a nearby hospital suffering from severe burns. The subsequent investigation determined that he was involved in
the arson. Three men who were with the victim at the hospital where he sought treatment were arrested without incident. On Wednesday, July 15, 2009, the 22-year-old Toronto man
succumbed to the injuries he received in the fire.
