Ottawa man Francis Charron charged with several counts related to a historical sexual assault investigation

The Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse (SACA) Section charged an Ottawa man in relation to a Sexual assault on an 11 year old girl that occurred in 1997. The girl was grabbed off a bike path in the Hampton Park area by an unknown male in the summer of 1997. 

In July 2013, the suspect was identified through Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) at the RCMP National DNA Data Bank. The Ottawa Police were notified and an investigation commenced. 

On August 28, 2013 the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit charged Francis Charron, 45 years old, of Ottawa with Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Invitation to Sexual Touching, Uttering Threats and Forcible Confinement. 

He appeared in court on October 3, 2013 for a bail hearing and has been held in custody since that time. 

The Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section is concerned that there could be further victims and is asking those who may have been a victim of Mr. Charron, a resident of Ottawa and Gatineau in the past years, to contact police.
