The senate is anticipated to vote on three of the most contentious and deliberated motions as early as Friday, which seek to suspend three senators from the Red Chamber for alleged “gross negligence” while spending taxpayers money. The Red Chamber is now scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. in a rare Friday sitting. The motions have already dented the Conservative caucus, with at least two senators and one MP openly speaking against the suspensions.

All three senators in question, namely Sen. Pamela Wallin, Sen. Mike Duffy and Sen. Patrick Brazeau, are facing motions that were filed by government leader in the Senate, Claude Carignan, and bear complete support of the Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Most of the time spent during the debate held until Thursday night concentrated on procedural issues, for example how much time the senators might be given to address the Red Chamber.

Mr. Brazeau addressed the senate at two separate occasions on Thursday, along with Ms. Wallin who also remained in the chamber until the session adjourned at midnight. During her address to the Senate on Thursday night, Sen. Wallin stated that she feels she is being denied an opportunity for due process, which she said is more than simply being able to ask questions of senators during the debate. She stated that “I’ve asked very clearly that due process, rule of law, and the constitution of this country be respected,” adding “and that’s what I’m looking for, today, tomorrow and every day of my life.”
