The Ottawa Police Service has charged a male suspect following a pursuit in the east end.

On August 18, 2010, at approximately 12:33 am, Ottawa Police responded to a call for a male suspect in a parking lot in the 0-100 block of Provender Avenue pointing a firearm at several people. Upon police arrival, it was noted that the suspect had left the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed.

The suspect’s vehicle was spotted soon after by an officer in the area of Bathgate Drive and Ogilvie Road. The officer pursued the vehicle which pulled over at an address on Appleford Street where an unknown male passenger exited the vehicle and ran from the scene. The vehicle then continued on its way, refusing to stop for police.

The pursuit continued until the male suspect, who was driving the vehicle, pulled over in the area of Dunvegan Road and Arundel Avenue. He was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.

Christopher LEEMAN, 28-years-old of Ottawa, is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

Careless use of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition x 1 count
Pointing a firearm x 4 counts
Possession of a weapon x 1 count
Unauthorized possession of a firearm x 1 count
Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized x 1 count
Unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle x1 count
Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order x 2 counts
Fail to comply with recognizance x 3 counts
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle x 1 count
Flight while pursued by peace officer x 1 count

LEEMAN is scheduled to appear in court today for a show cause hearing.

A search was initiated for the unknown passenger that exited the vehicle on Appleford Street however he was not located. He is described as a white male in his 20’s, approximately 5’10-5’11” (178cm-180cm), 190lbs (86 kg) with short light brown hair. He was wearing a blue t-shirt.

No injuries were sustained as a result of this incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
