Retired Air Force captain, Claude Latulippe, have planned to pay homage to fellow former comrades at precisely 11 a.m. on Remembrance Day at the local cenotaph in Chilliwack, B.C. However, in their attempt to stage protest and displeasure against the local Conservative MP, Mark Strahl, Mr. Latulippe and other veterans have resulted to face away at his turn.

65-year-old Mr. Latulippe hopes that this gesture will be repeated in communities across Canada. He claimed that this act implies that Veterans are now ready to turn their backs on the Conservative government “just like the Conservatives are turning their backs on veterans.” Discrepancies between Canada’s veterans and the government has mounted in recent years as a result of consistent policy making that allegedly ignored the sacrifices of veterans and leave them with less than what was provided to previous generations of soldiers, sailors and airmen.

Commenting on the veterans’ aptitude to protest, Mr. Latulippe alleged that it is not something that comes naturally to former members of the armed forces. He stated that “military don’t march against authority,” and are instead trained to “fall in line and do what they’re told.” However, he alleged that recent years have served as a wakeup call to successfully move the veterans to resolve some critical problems and could prompt action on others. He elucidated that there is a list of current grievances against the government, starting from the New Veterans Charter, which became law in 2006. The charter amended a system providing pension for life to disabled veterans in exchange for one that offers a lump-sum payment of up to $276,000.
