Police have laid fraud-related charges against an Ajax-based home improvement contractor after he allegedly accepted down payments on numerous projects but never completed the work.

On August 17, 2010, police arrested the male after an investigation into numerous complaints from members of the public. Investigators have identified 12 victims and approximately $30,000 in deposits.

The accused was a self-employed contractor operating as Lakeside Plumbing and Bathroom. The concerns began in the Fall of 2009 when an Ajax homeowner had provided a $1,800 deposit for laundry room improvements that were never completed. A tile supplier was also due some money. Other Durham Region citizens were victimized earlier this year when they made deposits for bathroom and other household renovations and the work either never began or was never completed.

Tod HARVEY age 43, of Ajax, is charged with Fraud Under $5000 x8; Fraud Over $5000; Utter False Document, Laundering In Proceeds of Crime and Theft Under $5000. He was released on an Officer In Charge Undertaking and a Promise to Appear.
