Poll Reveals Majority against Ford to Stay in Office

A latest poll conducted by Ipsos Reid has revealed that only a quarter of Torontonians hold the opinion that Mayor Rob Ford should remain in his office amid innumerous calls from him to resign or take some time off from office after admitting to have had smoked crack cocaine. Consequently, the poll found that only 24 per cent respondents believe Ford can continue to work as mayor amid the scandal, while majority straightforwardly alleged that the mayor should instead resign or take a leave of absence to deal with his personal issues.

Among all those polled, 41 per cent were of the opinion that Mayor Ford should resign permanently and keep away from politics, while 35 per cent advised the mayor to take a break for treatment and come back in a few months to run again in the October 2014 municipal election. Ford has completely disregarded innumerable calls for him to resign or step aside, as he adamantly stated his plans to keep the office for the moment and also seek re-election next year.

When inquired about the mayor’s plan to keep in office and still run for reelection, 70 per cent of poll respondents alleged that this plan is not acceptable (49 per cent say not at all, 21 per cent say not really).While out of those 30 per cent of respondents who think that Ford’s plan is acceptable, 11 per cent say very and 20 per cent say somewhat. Observing the Mayor’s track record for past two years, his approval rating has decreased consistently since he took charge of the office.
