At approximately 5:40 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2010, a 26-year-old male motorcyclist was travelling northbound on Towne Centre Boulevard, and turned left onto 23 Avenue to go west but went into the eastbound lane. The driver appears to have lost control of his motorcycle when it struck the curb of the median between the eastbound and westbound lanes, and the motorcycle slid on its side into a drainage catch basin cover. There were no other vehicles involved in the collision.
The motorcyclist was transported to hospital but later died from his injuries. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, but not an approved helmet. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
The EPS Traffic Section continues to investigate the crash and interview witnesses. This is Edmonton’s fourth motorcycle fatality and the 26th traffic fatality for 2010.
