A 23-year-old local man suffered head trauma in an apparent altercation around 6 p.m. last night in the area of 100 St. and 107A Ave. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are asking for help in finding the person who came across the victim. He is described as a short, Caucasian male with a slim build, grayish hair, around 50ish, wearing glasses, dark clothes and riding a mountain bike. Apparently he found the victim and ran to the Brick furniture store and requested staff call EMS at 6:18 p.m. Once EMS arrived and determined the injuries were fatal, EPS Homicide Section was called to the scene.

“Given the area is quite busy with a lot of traffic, we are hoping someone witnessed something and will come forward with some helpful information,” said S/Sgt Dave Spiers. “It is also important to speak to the person who found the victim – he could have valuable information and not even realize it."

The victim has been identified as 23-year-old James Lee Catholique of no fixed address. The autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon.
