Following a lengthy investigation, members of the DRPS Major Crime Robbery Unit arrested a Markham man and charged him with two outstanding robberies from Durham Region.

On Thursday August 26, 2010, members of the Major Crime Robbery Unit arrested a 23-year-old Markham man in the vicinity of the Scarborough Town Centre shopping mall, without incident. Following the arrest, investigators with the assistance of DRPS Tactical Support Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Markham and seized evidence pertaining to the two separate robbery investigations in Durham Region.

On Saturday May 1, 2010, at approximately 10 p.m. two male suspects attended a convenience store located on Bayly Street in Pickering and stole a quantity of cash and merchandise from the lone victim. The employee was not physically injured during the incident. Both suspects fled the vicinity in a suspect vehicle before police arrival.

The second robbery incident occurred on Monday August 9, 2010 at approximately 2:30 p.m. when two male suspects entered a convenience store on Westney Road in Ajax and stole a quantity of cash from the lone employee. The victim was not physically injured during the incident. Both suspects fled the scene before police arrival.

Matthew DIXON, age 23, of Woodhall Road in Markham is charged with: Robbery with Offensive Weapon x2; Disguise with Intent x2; Possession of Weapons to Commit Offence x2; Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking; Possession of Proceeds of Crime and Fail to Comply. The accused was held for a bail hearing.
