Arresting Mayor on Drug Charges, U.S. Sheriff Says ‘This isn’t Toronto’

After having had recently arrested a local politician on drug charges, Florida sheriff referred to the prominent scandal encircling embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in an official statement. Bradford County Sheriff reveled that its drug unit recently obtained an arrest warrant for the mayor of Hampton, Fla. It revealed that an elaborate investigation found that the accused “obtained and then sold some Oxycodone.” Consequently, a warrant issued yesterday led to the arrest of accused without incident.

51-year-old Barry Layne Moore now faces charges of selling a Schedule I or II drug, along with possession of a Schedule I or II drug. Soon after the arrest was made, Bradford County Sheriff’s Office posted a statement at its official Facebook page, mentioning that “This isn’t Toronto.” The Sheriff mentioned in the statement that “we will not tolerate illegal drug activity, in my jurisdiction, by anyone to include our elected officials.”

It was clear that the Sheriff referenced to recently highlighted drug scandal that involves notorious Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, and reached at its peak after his confession of having had smoked crack cocaine while serving as the mayor of Toronto. Later Ford further confessed having had drunk to excess, along with purchasing illegal drugs in the past two years. The scandal first received international attention when numerous media outlets revealed that someone was trying to sell them a video showing the mayor using crack cocaine. Ford consistently denied having had using crack cocaine and the video’s existence at the time, until he recently not only confessed to that but more.
