In a failed robbery attempt at a Vancouver restaurant on Cambie street restaurant on Monday night, one of its workers was shot in the face. The two masked robbers allegedly confronted the worker while he was taking out trash at around 10:45 p.m. PT, behind the Tropika restaurant at 2975 Cambie St. near 15th Avenue. According to initial police investigation, a struggle continued until one of the suspects shot the worker in the cheek with a pellet gun.
Police confirmed that the worker managed to escape from the assault and entere into the restaurant calling for help. However, since he was being pursued by one of the masked men, the struggle continued in the restaurant until another worker managed to call 911. Consequently, the suspects quickly escaped through the back doors of the restaurant, where investigators suspect there might have been a vehicle waiting for them. Police has confirmed that the suspects failed to get away with any money, and there have been no arrests so far.
In a statement made by Sgt. Randy Fincham, he stated that “at this point it does look like a robbery attempt. We believe the motive was money.” Fincham added that “it appears these two men tried to force their way into the back of the restaurant … it doesn’t look to be anything targeted at the individual.” Soon after the incident, the worker was shifted to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries, about which Fincham alleged that pellet gun did inflict “significant damage” to the man’s face.
