Officials have confirmed that the New Year’s Eve in Winnipeg this year was much cooler than Mars, speaking in terms of temperature, along with being colder than the North Pole. Statistics show that it was the coldest New Year’s Eve experienced by Winnipeggers.

According to a meteorologist with Environment Canada, Dale Marciski, the year 2013 ended with bringing the coldest December day Winnipeg has seen in the past 80 years, when the temperatures dived even lower than -37.9°C in the early hours of the day. Officials have disclosed that this was the coldest day in the history of Winnipeg since December 1933. However, there was a cooler New Year’s Eve on record, when the temperature reached -38.3°C on December 31, 1884. Although, there is very little difference in it for most Winnipeggers since, after factoring in the wind-chill, the temperature most likely felt like it was almost -48°C.

A Manitoba Museum located in Winnipeg claims that it was warmer on the surface of Mars than it was in Winnipeg during the New Year’s Eve time. In a tweet posted by the museum, it was stated that “according to the Curiosity Rover, Mars reached a maximum air temperature of -29°C today. Winnipeg’s high was -31°C.” Whereas, same was the analysis in case of the North Pole, as a chart analysis between the two temperatures went viral on early New Year’s Eve, which clearly showed that the North Pole was more than 10 degrees warmer than Winnipeg at the time.
