Lunenburg District RCMP is investigating the death of a local fisherman in Stonehurst South.

At 1 a.m. this morning, Lunenburg District RCMP and Emergency Health Services(EHS) responded to a complaint of a missing 79-year-old fisherman. The search for the missing man involved the Lunenburg, Bridgewater, Dayspring and Blockhouse Fire departments and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) who dispatched a cormorant helicopter to the area. 

An extensive search of the area was conducted and tragically, the man’s body was located in the water at approximately 5:10 a.m. this morning. 

The investigation is continuing and RCMP do not suspect foul play. 

Update: RCMP is releasing the name of the fisherman who was found deceased yesterday morning. 

At 1 a.m. yesterday, Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a complaint of a missing 79-year-old fisherman. An extensive search of the area was conducted and tragically, the man’s body was located in the water. 

Elburn Leo Tanner, 79, of Stonehurst, was found deceased in the Rocky Lane Cove area of Stonehurst South. Foul play is not suspected.
