Windsor Police have a man in custody facing charges of theft and assault after an altercation at a Liquor Control Board of Ontario store last night. At 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 9, 2010 uniformed Windsor Police officers responded to the LCBO store in the 3100 block of Howard Ave. for a report of a man struggling with store security officers.

Officers arrived shortly after to find two store loss prevention officers struggling with a man on the ground just outside the store and attempting to place handcuffs on him. The loss prevention officers were having great difficulty in arresting the suspect as he was extremely combative and was assaulting both officers. A Windsor Police Sergeant deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) striking the suspect . As a result, the suspect was subdued and he was handcuffed by the officers.

The investigation revealed that one of the loss prevention officers observed the suspect conceal a bottle of liquor in a jacket and then leave the store making no attempt to purchase the merchandise. The loss prevention officers then attempted to arrest the suspect as he exited the store but the suspect became combative and began to physically assault both officers.

The suspect was not injured as a result of the deployment of the Conducted Energy Weapon. Neither of the loss prevention officers were injured during the struggle.

Lonnie LAMOTTE – 32 years of Windsor is facing one charge of Theft Under $5000 and two counts of Assault With Intent To Resist Arrest.
