A 68-year-old man is facing multiple fraud charges for allegedly defrauding Albertans of close to $320,000, as part of an investment scheme.
Southwest Division detectives believe Gary Walker targeted female victims via online dating websites and males that he conducted business with between 2007 and 2010. The accused is alleged to have convinced five complainants from across Alberta, including Edmonton, Calgary and Wetaskiwin, to give him large sums of money under the false pretence of investing in the stock market.
It one such instance, Walker is alleged to have convinced a female victim that he met on a popular online dating site to give him $201,000 for the purpose of investing in stocks. It is alleged that the initial investment and dividends were never returned to the complainant.
The Calgary Police Service arrested Walker recently on fraud warrants. Gary Walker is charged with fraud over $5,000 (x5). He is also wanted on a fraud warrant in Brantford, Ont.
