In June 2010, officers of the Greater Sudbury Police Service Cyber Crime Unit commenced an investigation in conjunction with German law enforcement officers into an unknown person downloading and possessing child pornography.

German officers had identified the location of the person committing these offences as being in the Sudbury area. Further investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Greater Sudbury Police Service Cyber Crime Unit identified the Sudbury area male and residence.

On the 11th of September 2010, the Cyber Crime Unit and uniformed officers executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a Sudbury area residence and located the male within.

Numerous computers and data storage devices were located and seized.

A large cultivation of Psilocybin (magic mushrooms) was located therefore members of the Joint Forces Drug Unit (Greater Sudbury Police Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police) attended and entered into an investigation. A further search warrant was obtained and the drugs, drug paraphernalia and cash were seized.

The estimated value of the drugs was in excess of $150,000.00 and $2,053.00 in Canadian currency was seized.

The suspect misled the investigators as to his identity and was arrested for obstructing the officers and arrested for the drugs.

Evidence of Child Pornography was located by the investigators during subsequent examination of his data.
