Five years ago 14-year-old David Fortin left his home for school in Alama and has never come back since, now remembering him the same day, Missing Children’s Network and Sun Youth have announced to increase the reward money for information leading to his whereabouts and plead for the public not to forget him. David left his home shortly before 8 a.m. on Feb. 10, 2009, but he never got on the bus to school and there is no trace of him since that day. David ran away due to the teasing and bullying he had to endure at school since he was in kindergarten.

After consulting the investigators responsible for the case, Sun Youth mentioned in an announcement made on Monday that it has extended the reward offer of up to $10,000 for a further six months, i.e. until August 10, 2014. Addressing an assembly of students at Vincent Massey Collegiate in Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve on Monday, a representative of Missing Children’s Network, Pina Arcamone, and David’s mother, Caroline Lachance, launched a new safety program specifically configured for high school-aged students, S.T.A.Y, and new initiatives to combat bullying.

Arcamone mentioned that “as adults, we all have the responsibility to protect our children and serve as role models for them. No matter what our role is in the community, we can influence lives and maybe even save one, by helping to prevent bullying.” It was added that “our goal is to prevent another David. S.T.A.Y is designed to increase the students’ knowledge about runaway resources and prevention, provide them with alternatives to running away and encourage them to access and seek help from trusted community members.”
