According to a plan presented by The Parti Quebecois, it revealed that it intends to build more public transit, more spots in daycare, and stronger measures to protect the French language in the city of Montreal. The detailed plan enlisted in a four-page document mostly blames the previous Liberal government for the failure of the Ilot Voyageur project, i.e. a construction project created by UQAM which nearly bankrupted the university until it was bailed out by the Liberal government, the PQ takes credit for restoring pride to Montrealers.
The Minister for Montreal, Jean-Francois Lisée, mentioned in a statement that PQ aims work towards making the island more inviting for families including funding more social housing and enforcing low-noise regulations in certain areas. In addition to that, the party’s plan included increasing public transit by 30 percent, however it did not plan to cover the Ville Marie Expressway, which is a project being spearheaded by Projet Montreal leader Richard Bergeron.
Speaking about the PQ’s plan for the province, Lisée pointed out that “we’re not vowing to have a referendum in our first mandate or in our second. But we will lead Quebecers on that path.” Additionally, Lisée alleged that the candidacy of Pierre Karl Peladeau was a boost to the party’s raison d’etre. Lisée added that “it’s clear we want Quebec to be an independent nation. There’s no debate about this, we think it’s important,” asserting that “there are very strong voices that believe it would be a good thing and a good deal.”
