Perceived frontrunner of Toronto’s mayoral campaign, Olivia Chow, is soon to announce her resignation from the seat in the House of Commons on Wednesday and launch her Toronto mayoral campaign on Thursday. If the new confirmed by multiple campaign sources is true, the New Democrat representing Trinity-Spadina, Chow, will become the first left-leaning challenger to incumbent Rob Ford.

Chow’s highly expected and long-awaited entry into the mayoral race has completed the field of major candidates. According to anonymous campaign sources, Chow’s campaign will highlight her personal story as done in the past through her bestselling autobiography that kept her in the public eye before the campaign period. Sources confirm that her campaign will be launch from a church in St. James Town, i.e. a dense and low-income neighbourhood of highrises where her family lived after emigrating from Hong Kong in 1970.

According to another campaign organizer, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Tuesday, “this campaign will be about electing a new mayor to create a better city. It will be a change campaign — a campaign focused on not just replacing Rob Ford but replacing his failed agenda.” Furthermore, it was elaborated that “Tory and Stintz have not articulated an agenda, or a clear contrast with Rob Ford. And coming out of the gate, you will see Olivia articulate an agenda. One that is bold, one that is surprising, one that speaks to her values and her personal story in the city of Toronto.”
