South Asian community honours our fallen Canadian Soldiers

A Maple-Leaf Shaped Monument to be Unveiled in Richmond Hill, Ontario

"The Memorial is built by the Indo-Canadian Community to honour fallen Canadian soldiers"

A grand Memorial to our Fallen Soldiers will be ceremoniously unveiled at the premises of the Canadian Museum of Hindu Civilization (CMOHC) at 8640 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, Ontario at 12 noon on Saturday, October 2, 2010.

This memorial is dedicated by CMOHC to the Canadian Armed Forces for their exemplary service as peacekeepers all over the world.

Donated by Indo-Canadians, the monument is designed to capture the heroism of the soldiers, with particular reference to those who lost their lives in Afghanistan. Shaped as a maple leaf to symbolize the patriotism of the soldiers, it is exquisitely carved in black granite – Nerro Assuloto – and Imperial red granite, sourced from India. 12 feet tall and weighing about 15 tons, this monument will be placed next to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

CMOHC invites all Canadians to participate in the unveiling ceremonies and to offer prayers at a multi-faith service for the brave souls who sacrificed their lives for world peace.

The monument is donated to CMOHC by the families of Shylee & Ajit Someshwar, Christine & Bhupinder Khalsa and Jaya & Vasu Chanchlani.
