John Vachon charged with assault with a weapon and home invasion in Port Hope

Excellent teamwork between Port Hope and Durham Regional police led to the arrest of a Clarington man wanted for a violent assault in Bowmanville and a home invasion in Port Hope.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 19, 2010, a 21-year-old Clarington man assaulted a 17 year-old youth in a Bowmanville residence. The two men knew each other and the accused struck the victim on the head with an imitation handgun during a confrontation over a debt. Police were called and searched for the 21-year-old suspect, but no arrests were made.

On Wednesday, September 22nd, a violent home invasion took place in Port Hope. Five suspects entered a home, armed with a shotgun and a crowbar, and then left the scene. The PHPS contacted the DRPS with suspect information and vehicle description. Officers from East Division began searching and located a suspect vehicle at approximately 3 a.m. traveling northbound on Old Scugog Road going toward Hampton. The vehicle was stopped and two people were arrested without incident.

John Vachon, age 21 of No Fixed Address (Clarington) was charged by the DRPS with Assault With a Weapon in connection with the Sept. 19 assault incident in Bowmanville. He and an 18-year-old female were then turned over to Port Hope Police for their investigation of the home invasion.
