Gaston Leroy Genaille charged with aggravated assault in Winnipeg

As previously released, on Friday, September 10th, 2010 at approximately 11:25 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service Uniform Members responded to the rear lane of Selkirk Avenue, near Andrews Street for a report of male that had been set on fire.

Upon arrival officers located a 47 year old male victim in flames. These officers acted quickly and were able to extinguish the fire. Emergency Responders attended and the victim was immediately transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Gaston Leroy GENAILLE 19 years, of Winnipeg had initially been charged with the following offences and had been detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre:

– Aggravated assault
– Robbery with violence
– Breach of probation X2
– Warrant to Arrest (Assault cause bodily harm, breach probation)

On September 27TH, 2010 the Winnipeg Police Service was notified that the victim in this matter, Mr. Gerald DUMAS had succumbed to his injuries.

In consultation with the Crown Attorney’s Office a charge of second-degree murder was authorized and an arrest warrant was issued.

On September 28th, 2010 the warrant to arrest for second-degree murder was executed on Gaston Leroy GENAILLE and he remains in custody.
