A 33-year-old man from the Town of East Gwillimbury was arrested in Toronto and charged with multiple child exploitation offences after he met an undercover officer posing as a single mother for the purpose of sexually assaulting her young children. This resulted from a co-operative effort between members of the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Section and the Toronto Police Sex Crimes Unit – Child Exploitation Section.
In 2013, members of the York Regional Police ICE Section investigated a man who was posting ads on an online classified service seeking intimate relationships with people in York Region, especially single parents who have babies or toddlers in the Newmarket area. Some of his ads included professional-looking photographs of babies, while other ads featured sexually explicit material seeking sex with males and females of all ages. The investigation revealed that the author was particularly interested in developing a relationship with a single parent in order to gain access to children.
On April 8, 2014, the accused met an undercover officer that he believed was a single mother from Toronto for the purpose of sexually assaulting her two young children. He was arrested by members of the Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes Unit and officers of York Regional Police High Risk Offender Unit. A search warrant was executed at a residence in the Holland Landing area of East Gwillimbury where child pornography and several computers were seized.
Mr. Cunningham is known to police and he is on the Ontario Sex Offender Registry. Investigators believe there may be victims and witnesses who have not yet come forward.

Mr. Cunningham was held in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court in the Town of Newmarket on April 17, 2014.
