An 87-year-old man has died following a motor vehicle collision in Port Hastings yesterday.

On April 23rd, at approximately 3:15 p.m., RCMP, Emergency Health Services (EHS), and Port Hastings and Port Hawkesbury Fire Departments responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 4. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevrolet sedan with two occupants collided with an oil delivery truck. Both occupants of the sedan were trapped and the Jaws of Life were used to free them from the vehicle. The driver of the oil truck, a 36-year-old Port Hawkesbury man, was not injured.

The driver of the sedan, Donald John Ferguson, from Skye Glen, was transported by EHS to St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish where he died from his injuries. His 84-year-old female passenger was also transported to St. Martha’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. She remains in hospital. A traffic analyst was called to the scene to investigate. RCMP advise that no charges are being considered.
